Pathophysiology

A guide providing suggestions and resources for conducting pathophysiology research.

Searching for Books

The DVC Libraries own many books in print and electronic formats that you may find helpful to include in your research.

You can start searching our collection using the OneSearch search bar we've provided below. OneSearch is the DVC Library's search function that allows you to search all of the information resources in the library at once.

Search Hint: Try searching for the name of the disease you're researching, or the relevant organ or system of the body along with the keyword "pathophysiology" or "physiology." For example:

  • "Type 2 Diabetes" AND pathophysiology

  • Lungs AND physiology

  • "Cardiovascular system" AND pathophysiology

Summaries & Overviews - Encyclopedias

Background research is the kind of research you do when you want a big picture overview of a topic. It's often the first kind of research you will do to give yourself a solid grounding in your topic before taking a deep dive into specific aspects and issues of interest.

Background research will help you to efficiently :

  • familiarize yourself with the basics: disease description, symptoms and treatments
  • find some useful overviews of the body systems and organs involved and affected by your disease
  • decode some of the jargon or terms associated with your topic
  • possibly find additional sources using the bibliography of an article or chapter

Use specialized encyclopedias and reference books to find basic facts and outlines of your topic which serve as a foundation for your further explorations. We share a couple of examples below. You can use the search box above to find more sources.
