Library Borrowing

Student ID Cards

To obtain a student ID, bring proof of registration for the current semester plus an official photo identification such as a California's driver's license to the Circulation and Reserve Desk or the Student Life Office. If you would like a color photo, you can buy your ID card in the Student life office for a fee (this includes an ASDVC membership).

Overdue Fines

The library does not have overdue fines. However, library materials that are very overdue are considered lost, and you will be charged a replacement fee for lost items.  

  •     If you return the item, the fee will be waived.
  •     If you do not pay the fee, library borrowing privileges and DVC course registration are withheld.
  •     If you pay the fee, your borrowing privileges and course registration will be reinstated.
  •     To contest or appeal the fee, contact circ@dvc.edu.

Payment: Fees can be paid in cash at the library Circulation desk, or at the Cashier’s Office at the Pleasant Hill campus. You cannot pay online.

Checkouts and Returns

Use your DVC Student ID Card (or your 7-digit student number and another form of photo ID) to check out materials. You may borrow up to 20 books with a maximum of 5 books at a time on any one subject.

Circulating books may be checked out for three weeks; reference books, Special Collections and DVC Archives may only be used in the Library,

You may request that DVC Library books get sent from Pleasant Hill Campus to San Ramon Campus or vice versa - this linked video has instructions on how to request books.

Books from CCC or LMC

You may also go to either of those libraries and check out circulating books using your DVC Student ID. You may then return those books at your home campus library and the staff will send them to their proper library home. Please note that this return service is only available for books from the CCC, DVC and LMC libraries.

Holds and Renewals

Books for which there are no holds may be renewed a maximum of two times, each renewal for a two week period. Books may be renewed using the My Library Account link or by calling the Circulation Desk at 925-969-2610.
