cheerful, imaginative, and free-spirited, Satsuki is still responsible enough to take care of the much more impulsive Mei. Although at eleven, Satsuki might sometimes think of herself as too grown-up for her younger sister, the ease with which she's sucked into Mei's plans shows that Satsuki is just as prone to flights of fancy as her younger sister.
Mei's personality is just like that of any young girl; being bright, sweet, and innocent. Also like other children, she is extremely curious, following the smaller Totoros as soon as she sees them, as well as trying to get the dust creatures to come out of hiding. Upon finding Totoro, she is not the least bit afraid, only laughing happily and answering Totoro's roars and falling asleep on his stomach. She loves playing with her sister and is very eager to explore the house and its surroundings.

Sosuke is depicted as intelligent, loyal, heroic. He is based on Hayao Miyazaki's son Garo Miyazaki, when he was five years old.
Fujimoto is a dignified sort of character that demands respect but is also prone to becoming flustered. As a human turned caretaker of the sea, he resents his former kind for being so dirty and polluting his home. Fujimoto is very concerned with order and control, but he is not cruel. He loves his daughters and wants them to be safe. Fujimoto carries himself with dignity even in defeat.
cheerful and helpful, but insecure. Despite her natural magical talent, Kiki still has a lot to learn about both about magic and adulthood. In many ways, she's your average 13-year-old girl: a little inexperienced, a little oversensitive, and a little unsure of herself, but with a good heart and a strong willingness to prove herself.
